Snowboard on the Rocks

Let me recap the event for those of you who were unfortunate enough to miss it.

Snowboard on the Rocks made history Friday night, taking over Red Rocks for the first time ever! The night consisted of crazy shenanigans, with live performances from Bukue One, London Dungeon, DEL, and the Cool Kids! Not to mention movies from three great production companies, Standard Films, Think Thank, and Colorado's own Never Summer.

This whole event was put on by four of the coolest people I know, Adam Schmidt, Andrew Heard, Carissa Bisnar, and Pat Milbery, but they couldn't have done it with out the huge support group and dozens of people willing to help out. Congratulations on a successful event!

The team started off the night with an awesome BBQ at Sam Bell's house. Everyone was there, and it was a great opportunity to meet all the other teamsters before we headed off to the show.

We had the COOLEST bus driver ever, Mike Alan, who transported 37 members to Red Rocks. Yes, we rode a school bus to Red Rocks. Badass.

"Y'all were a dope ass group" Mike told me later.

The bus ride was awesome, full of rowdy kids stoked to see this ground-breaking event.

When CUST arrived, everyone snagged a spot in the front 5 rows of the venue, a prime location to watch the premiers.

It was pretty crazy to be able to walk down any of the first 5 rows and run in to a bunch of CUST members. We took over! During the musical acts, everyone was dancing and singing along - even if they didn't know the words. A sea of hands bounced to the beat with over 6,000 people in the venue; it was UNREAL.

Lani and I got to hang out back stage which was really cool. We even got to watch skate coach Steve Pleines in Never Summer's MIA from behind the screen, so everything played backwards. With The Cool Kids of course. Kind of a big deal.

Steve asked me later, "Did you see me on the big screen??" He could barely contain his excitement.
He said, "It was really rewarding to see myself as a rider in front of all those people. Especially to be associated with some of the bigger names like Ryan Cruze and Cooper Hoffmeister."
We couldn't be more stoked for him.

After MIA, Think Thanks film Right Brain, Left Brain played. Pat Milbery and the crew slayed on the big screen. Pat sat out in the crowd so he could watch his part, backstage we could hear his excited voice over the radio.
Pat told me, "Watching my video part at Red Rocks was one of the coolest feelings I have experienced yet. Especially after all the hard work it takes to put a video part together that you are proud to be [a] representative of. Thanks for all the support Colorado!"
And of course, I got to meet my idol, snowboarding legend Torstein Horgmo aka Mr. Triple Cork! He was a little underspoken on stage, but that didn't mean that everyone wasn't hanging on every word he said. You could definitely see the vast amounts of respect everyone else on stage had for him as they watched him speak to the crowd.

Torstein introduced Standard Films, The Storming, and all we could do was watch the huge screen with awe. I was absolutely blown away by his raw talent and pure skill... and the crowd was nearly silent at the end of his video part, in anticipation of the first triple cork caught on film in snowboarding history.
I think the show prepared everyone for the 2010-2011 season, this season is going to be the best yet. The crew was ready to head back to Boulder, but not before a potty break!

The bus ride back echoed with CUST members sharing their stories from the show, and discussing what their favorite parts were.

Overall, the event was breath taking, and CUST was glad to take part in it. For all of you that missed it, this event marked the first of many snowboarding events to take place at Red Rocks, one of the best venues in the world. So there is always next year...

In other news...
TONIGHT is the first Skate Practice with our own big screen celebrity Steve Pleines. Come get his autograph, haha.
We are meeting at Satellite at 6pm, and carpooling over to the Longmont skatepark. The lights stay on until 10pm so expect to be back in Boulder by 10:30pm, if not earlier.
Any questions contact Steve or myself. See you tonight!
